To every discerning and illumined heart it is evident that God, the unknowable Essence, the divine Being, is immensely exalted beyond every human attribute, such as corporeal existence, ascent and descent, egress and regress. Far be it from His glory that human tongue should adequately recount His praise, or that human heart comprehend His fathomless mystery. He is and hath ever been veiled in the ancient eternity of His Essence, and will remain in His Reality everlastingly hidden from the sight of men. “No vision taketh in Him, but He taketh in all vision; He is the Subtile, the All-Perceiving.”71 No tie of direct intercourse can possibly bind Him to His creatures. He standeth exalted beyond and above all separation and union, all proximity and remoteness. No sign can indicate His presence or His absence; inasmuch as by a word of His command all that are in heaven and on earth have come to exist, and by His wish, which is the Primal Will itself, all have stepped out of utter nothingness into the realm of being, the world of the visible.

Para todo o coração perspicaz e iluminado, é evidente que Deus, a Essência incognoscível, o Ser Divino, está imensamente exaltado acima todos os atributos humanos, tais como existência corpórea, subida e descida, saída e regresso. Longe esteja da Sua glória que a língua humana celebre adequadamente o Seu louvor, ou que o coração humano compreenda o Seu insondável mistério. Ele está, e sempre esteve, velado na eternidade antiga da Sua Essência, e permanecerá na Sua Realidade eternamente oculto da vista dos homens. “Nenhuma visão O abrange, mas Ele abrange toda a visão; Ele é o Subtil, o Que Tudo Percebe”[71]. Nenhum laço de relação directa pode, hipoteticamente, liga-Lo às Suas criaturas. Ele permanece exaltado além e acima de toda a separação e união, toda a proximidade e afastamento. Nenhum sinal pode indicar a Sua presença ou a Sua ausência, pois, por uma palavra do Seu mandamento tudo o que está nos céus e na terra veio à existência, e pelo Seu desejo, que é em si próprio a Vontade Primaz, tudo saiu da não-existência absoluta para reino da existência, o mundo do visível.
